47 and single. Former Miss Universe and mother of two. Sushmita Sen is every bit an inspiration for every solo kudi (single woman) out there, being one herself. Ever since she won the crown in 1994, and represented the country on a world stage, Sen has ensured that the public gaze never dimmed her shine. Her stories of how she made a big bold move by entering the Miss Universe race despite formidable competition, ensuring she was prepared despite a humble background, having her winning gown made from a local tailor and wearing gloves made of socks have made women smile and dream for more.
Although it’s quite obvious, but here’s why Sen is a shining inspiration:
1) A single mother: Sen is a mother of two – Renee, and Alisah. She is arguably one public figure in the country who has normalised adoption. Her parenthood needless to say serves worthwhile lessons for many.
2) Resilient: Recently, Sen revealed how she suffered a heart attack when she was in Jaipur for the shoot of Arya. But the actor-entrepreneur revealed the episode with complete nonchalance. “Keep your heart happy and courageous, and it’ll stand by you when you need it the most Shona” (Wise words by my father Subir Sen). I suffered a heart attack a couple of days back…Angioplasty done…stent in place…and most importantly, my cardiologist reconfirmed ‘I do have a big heart,” was her post on Instagram:
3) Her relationships are nobody’s business: In a world where curiosity plagues, Sushmita Sen has never given two hoots about the gossip that spreads faster than fire. Most recently, she has been very vocal about Rohman Shawl. Also, for anyone claiming to be in a relationship with her, Sen has never lost calm.
4) Ever-evolving: Sen has been embracing many shades. “Filhaal”, the 2002 movie, was one of its kind on handling the subject of surrogacy. She is also set to play the role of Gauri Sawant, a trailblazer in the transgender community, in the web series “Taali”.
